Hello all, and happy post-Labor Day. It has been one roller-coaster of a summer, but all good (at least that's what I keep telling myself). Things don't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. . .

FASTER PUSSYCAT, SPILL!! SPILL!!
I was inspired by the 2010 Hallwalls Member's Exhibition titled "FASTER PUSSYCAT, SPILL!! SPILL!! (which in turn was inspired by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill) to create a sculptural work entitled "bp". The show came down last weekend, but John Massier featured a picture of it in "prolonged hacking and gnawing," his Hallwalls blog: <http://jmassier.blogspot.com/>

The Imaged Word
July 23 2010 – January 9, 2011
One of my hanging indexes is on display at the Albany International Airport as part of an exhibition called "The Imaged Word." The altered book is a library discard titled "Last Lines of Poetry: Vol. 1" that was perfect for the theme of the show. That work will be on extended display, so if you happen to have a layover at the Albany Airport (!?!) keep an eye out for it. <http://www.albanyairport.com/exhibitions.php>

Prints: Now in 3-D!
July 9 - October 31, 2010
A copy of "Hands of Time" is on display at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts as part of their "Prints: Now In 3-D!" exhibition, in coordination with the Mid America Print Council's 2010 conference to be held in Minneapolis in October. The piece is a boxed multiple documenting an installation I did in 2008 at Le Petite Versaille in New York.

Corner Brook, Newfoundland
August 21 - September 2, 2010
I had a most excellent adventure in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, Memorial University of NL. I was invited by Marlene McCallum, David Morrish and Pierre LeBlanc, three arts faculty members who are collaborators in an interesting research project combining digital, letterpress, and photogravure processes (SILLIS <http://www.swgc.ca/sillis>. I taught a workshop entitled "Printed Matters: The disembodied book made whole (again)" that combined altered books, digital media, and online research with formatting and printing. It was a rather ambitious endeavor but the participants were more than up to the task and made some amazing things. I was honored to work with Marlene and David on a collaborative photogravure print during my stay. It turned into quite the production: an altered phone book, digitally photographed, printed photogravure with chine-collé and embossed with a polymer plate. The embossing is a map that Captian Cook made of the west coast of NL where Corner Brook is located: The title of the print is "Corner Brook Cook Book."

Beyond-In Western New York at WNYBAC
Exhibition opening Friday, September 24th, 5 - 11 p.m.
The next big adventure is my show at the Western New York Book Arts Center (468 Washington at Mohawk in downtown Buffalo, one block from the Central Library) as part of the Albright Knox's "Beyond-In Western New York" biennial <http://www.beyondinwny.org/> (One of my pieces is pictured in the slide show on the home page). The overall event is already gaining media traction with mentions in the Toronto Star, ArtNet, and the Wall Street Journal (!). I'll be giving a talk at the Albright Knox on Friday, December 3 at 5 p.m. The body of work I'm exhibiting is entitled "encyclopornia," an obsession for over a year, so I'm very much looking forward to some closure.
Thanks to NYFA and the Cultural Council of Greater Rochester for the S.O.S. grant I received to help with the installation of this show.
